Mathematics

Welcome to the Pacheco High School Math Department!

Diploma Requirements for Mathematics:

Students earning a diploma are required to have completed a minimum of six semesters of math, for a total of 30 credits. Algebra must be 10 of these credits with the remaining 20 two different math courses. Students are expected to progress through the mat sequence. Students who repeat a course for which they had previously received credits will not earn credit twice. Students are encouraged to utilize all support for continuous successful advancement.

General information with regard to Mathematics Placement:

Placement in mathematics is based on achievement levels demonstrated by the student through the California Standards Test, common assessments, class work and/or readiness tests. Prerequisites for enrollment are listed with the description of each course.

Students taking the MDTP UC/CSU assessments are required to follow the specific directions of the test. All students will take the most recent versions as annually determined in departmental partnership with LBUSD and MCOE administration. These tests will be used for diagnostic purposes and taken into consideration for placement. A scientific calculator may be required for some assessments. Graphing calculators maybe used only on tests stating it is required.

The nature and content of mathematics requires students to meet rigorous demands placed upon them. At a minimum, students are expected to:

1. Achieve minimum scores of 70% or better in tests, quizzes, homework and other methods of evaluation.

2. Maintain a notebook as required.

3. Attend class on a regular and satisfactory basis at least 70% of class time during any specific grading period. Extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on an individual basis.
